LAMP THEATRE

The Lamp Theatre in downtown Irwin opened March 30, 1937, built by the Aladdin Theater Co.  Closed since 2004, Westmoreland Cultural Trust assumed ownership in 2006 and has since spent $733,000 in restoration, including a new roof, plumbing and electrical upgrades.  A fire at the adjacent Irwin Hotel in March 2009 set back the Lamp project, with fire-related damage to the Theatre.  Further progress is currently contigent upon securing $150,000 in local funds through public and private donations in order to secure $500,000 in pledged county and state grants.
