The Lamp Theatre in downtown Irwin opened March
30, 1937, built by the Aladdin Theater Co. Closed since
2004, Westmoreland Cultural Trust assumed ownership in 2006 and
has since spent $733,000 in restoration, including a new roof,
plumbing and electrical upgrades. A fire at the adjacent Irwin
Hotel in March 2009 set back the Lamp project, with fire-related
damage to the Theatre. Further progress is currently contigent
upon securing $150,000 in local funds through public and private
donations in order to secure $500,000 in pledged county and
state grants.
